What do you do when your dog refuses everything—even meat and eggs? This is the story of Rico, a picky little Bichon Frise, and how one meal changed everything.
“My dog is a vegetarian… he doesn’t enjoy meat or chicken. I don’t see the option of veg meals,” sighed Pria.
“Is he allergic to meat? Or just a preference?” I asked.
She replied instantly, “Just a preference. He doesn’t even eat eggs… very picky eater.”
Here I was, speaking with a dog mom who genuinely wanted to feed her baby fresh, healthy, meat-based meals—but had a little one who turned his nose up at everything.
It was tricky, but not uncommon, especially for a small breed like the Bichon Frise. While Pria seemed to have almost given up, she wasn’t completely closed to trying one more fresh meal. There was little hope in her voice, but there was still hope.
And I—quietly but confidently—had my fingers crossed.
Somewhere along my journey with Skylish, I’ve come to trust that dogs, especially the fussy ones, know. They can tell the difference between the quality of meats, the balance of formulation, and what feels right to their body. A lot of this I had learned firsthand while figuring out the right meals for my own girl, Sherry.
So we sent over a couple of fresh meal packs for Rico, along with a bone broth (to enhance palatability) and a handful of treats (for a little side drama). And then came the long wait—with all my fingers and toes crossed.
This wasn’t just another potential customer trying out a subscription. This was a tiny dog finally getting a chance to eat right.
Then, finally, came the message:
“He loved the chicken meal. Omg, thank you. I might order again.”
The sigh of relief was loud and real.
With palatability now proven, Pria agreed to do a week’s trial to test for long-term suitability. But even more than that, it was the joy in her voice that stayed with me:
“He loved it… Thank you so much. Now I don’t need to worry when I travel.”
And then, a little later:
“I can’t tell you how relieved I am. He licked the plate clean. Thank you for pushing me—honestly, I was so skeptical.”
Her excitement was palpable—and rightly so. The emotional high of seeing your baby finally enjoy a nutritious, wholesome meal is unmatched.
Soon after, the next batch of meals was ordered, and just like that, Rico began his journey into a world of species-appropriate nutrition, designed for long-term health and well-being.
Forever grateful for these little opportunities to make things right for a fur baby.
