3 Dog Food Myths Indian Pet Parents Need to Stop Believing

3 Dog Food Myths Indian Pet Parents Need to Stop Believing

There’s too much advice out there about what your dog should eat — and most of it is either confusing, scary, or just not practical for Indian homes.

At Skylish, we keep things simple, safe, and science-backed.

Here are 3 common food myths we hear all the time — and why we don’t fall for them.

1. Dogs should eat like wolves.

We get this a lot: “My dog’s a carnivore… they need raw meat like wolves.”

But your dog isn’t a wolf. Just like we don’t eat like apes anymore, dogs don’t need to eat like their ancestors.

Over thousands of years, dogs have evolved. Their digestion, habits, and food needs are very different now. Feeding raw food in Indian conditions — without the right sourcing, hygiene, and guidance — can actually be risky.

What we believe:

Feed your dog based on today’s needs, not a fantasy of the wild. Safe, balanced food matters more than “natural.”

2. Kibble is poison.

Fresh food is great — and that’s what we love at Skylish.

But calling kibble “poison” is just fear-mongering.

Let’s be real. Not everyone has the time to cook for their pet.

Many cities don’t have access to clean, good-quality meat.

And sadly, a lot of so-called “pet nutrition advice” online skips science and safety.

Yes, many cheap kibbles are full of junk. But the right kibble, chosen carefully, can be a safe option — especially when home-cooked meals aren't possible.

What we believe:

Fresh food is ideal. But context matters. Don’t fall for guilt. Do what works best — and safest — for your dog.

3. Rotate proteins every week for variety.

We’ve all heard it: “Dogs need variety. Keep changing meats every week.”

But for most dogs, especially those with sensitive tummies, this can cause more problems.

Changing proteins too often can lead to digestion issues, skin flare-ups, or make it harder to figure out what food works.

Instead, stick to 2–3 good quality meats your dog digests well.

Save special proteins like duck or rabbit for when your vet or nutritionist recommends it.

What we believe:

Food is information. Consistency helps us understand your dog’s body better.

Final Thought: Balance Over Bias

There’s no one “perfect” food — and there’s definitely no room for fear or judgement.

At Skylish, we guide you to make honest, practical food choices that actually work — not ones that sound trendy online.
